The initial idea came from the concept of a skin peel. When the surface is removed or distorted from the original structure, the peel finds a new structure or equilibrium and a new enclosure is formed. The new structure has its own autonomy- like a fallen leaf or discarded orange peel. if we look at the earth in layers and a section is pulled back, this flap can be twisted and curled. A series of sketch models explored these ideas. The resultant shapes and an investigation of possible structure pointed towards the loose spiral segment. This structure uses two filled arches which as they meet the ground, wrap around to form the base and create the enclosure. The larger arch flares at the base, again peeling away.
